BioactivityResiniferatoxin ((+)-Resiniferatoxin), is a selective agonist of transient receptor potential vanilloid 1 (TRPV1) receptor agonist. Resiniferatoxin can be isolated from the Euphorbia resinifera plant. Resiniferatoxin eliminates TRPV1+ primary sensory afferents and blunt cardiac sympathetic afferent reflex for a relatively long period[1][2]. Related Catalog Signaling Pathways >> Membrane Transporter/Ion Channel >> TRP Channel Research Areas >> Cardiovascular Disease In Vitro Resiniferatoxin causes prolonged channel opening time and calcium influx, resulting in cytotoxicity to TRPV1-positive pain fibers or cell bodies [1]. In Vivo Resiniferatoxin (2 μg/10 μl; intrathecally into the T2/T3 space; induced heart failure in rats 4 weeks after coronary artery occlusion) significantly and selectively abolishes afferent marker expression (TRPV1 and calcitonin gene-related peptide) in the dorsal horn and reduces hyperactivated CSNA. Resiniferatoxin significantly reverses the prolongation of action potential duration (APD) and APD alternations and reduces the inducibility of ventricular arrhythmias [2]. References [1]. Brown DC.
