| Bioactivity | 5-Chlorouracil (Fluorouracil Impurity) is a biochemical reagent that can be used as a biological material or organic compound for life science related research. Related Catalog Research Areas >> Others In Vitro 5-Chlorouracil is a chlorinated derivative of the pyrimidine nucleoside base uracil. In vivo, it is converted to chlorodeoxyuridine, which is mutagenic and genotoxic. 1 Uracil is chlorinated at position 5 in a cell-free myeloperoxidase, peroxide, and chloride system where hypochlorous acid is formed 2 5-Chlorouracil has been found in inflammatory human exudates isolated from superficial infection sites in vitro and in human neutrophils stimulated with phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate. Levels of 5-chlorouracil were increased in exudates isolated from sites of inflammation in a rat model of carrageenan-induced inflammation and in patient-derived human atherosclerotic aortic tissue. 3,4 References Chemical & Physical Properties Density 1.6±0.1 g/cm3 Melting Point >300 °C(lit.)
