| Bioactivity | 1-Benzyl-1H-imidazole is a biochemical reagent that can be used as a biological material or organic compound for life science related research. Related Catalog Research Areas >> Others In Vitro Benzylimidazole is a selective thromboxane synthase inhibitor and UDP-glucosyltransferase stimulator. Thromboxane synthase is a cytochrome P450 enzyme. Cytochrome P450 proteins are involved in catalyzing many reactions in drug metabolism and synthesis of cholesterol, steroids, and other lipids. This enzyme plays an important role in several pathophysiological processes, including hemostasis, cardiovascular disease, and stroke. This gene expresses two transcript variants. 1-Benzimidazole selectively inhibits the activity of thromboxane synthase. 1-Benzimidazole reduces TXB2 levels and increases blood flow after cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury in rats. Gastric administration of 1-benzimidazole (25, 75, and 100 mg/kg/day) induced dose-dependent hepatitis in male Wistar rats. 1-Benzimidazole reduces plasma triglyceride levels by 60-70%. 1-Benzimidazole stimulates three different forms of UDP-glucuronyltransferase. The activity of 1-benzimidazole was significantly increased against 4-methylthrinone, 1-naphthol, morphine, and nopol, a monoterpenoid alcohol. Benzimidazoles increase hepatocyte CYP1A catalytic activity and CYP1A mRNA in a concentration-dependent manner. References [1]. Pettigrew LC, Grotta JC, Rhoades HM, et al.
